FOUNDATION: Establishing Clarity

The Foundation Phase is the first step in Catapult’s FIRE model. It focuses on creating a clear and accurate picture of the current state of the organization. During this phase, the goal is to gather and analyze data to establish a fact-based understanding of core aspects of the business. This involves gathering information on the organization’s current strategic priorities, financials, structures, processes, culture, etc.

By examining diverse strategies and solutions, the planning team can gain new insights and perspectives. The key objectives of the Inspiration Phase are ideation and expanded thinking. This phase helps the organization envision new possibilities for its future.

RECOMMENDATION: Aligning on Priorities

The Recommendation Phase focuses on selecting what will be put into the plan that will shape the future of the organization. This phase is where the insights gained from the Foundation and Inspiration Phases are prioritized to align with the strategic vision. Critical decisions are made based upon the impact and effort that can translate into concrete, actionable strategies.

This phase identifies recommended action items and needed resources to be included in the plan and considers specific metrics, accountability structures, timelines, and resource allocation.  This phase lands on what goes into the strategic plan.

EXECUTION: Executing an Actionable Plan

The final phase of the FIRE model is Execution, where the action plans are detailed and put into practice. Execution is about turning plans into reality through diligent and coordinated efforts. It is not just a roadmap but a detailed guide that outlines who will do what, by when, and with what resources.

One of the critical outcomes of this phase is the alignment of the leadership team. It ensures that all leaders are committed to the plan and believe in its potential to drive the organization forward.  Accountable parties are responsible for carrying out the specific tasks outlined in the plan, and regular updates and reviews are conducted to monitor progress.
